In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the musical life and work of the college, Matthew was elected to be Honorary Fellow of college in February 2020. This award signifies his outstanding abilities to teach and lead music at the highest level.

Matthew embarked upon two years of advanced study in Opera where he learned from Iain Paton amongst many others. He performed several operatic roles and was involved in a wide range of solo and consort music making during his time at the conversatoire.

Matthew spent two years learning with Neil Mackie, CBE where he was involved in a myriad of performances and learning opportunities. He was awards a Distinction in his degree programme.

Matthew achieved the LRAM teaching qualification in 2011 having studied with Glenville Hargreaves. This has given him the solid basis upon which to build his teaching practice.
